The ass end of the teaching year has prevented my from doing much at all in the way of drawing....a real bloody shame. I had to skip two recent CTT submissions at Unit 16, but Redfive's creepy chicken got some attention...voila....

013 - Mermillo

When I was reading Asterix and the Gladiator about 100 years ago, I just loved the fact that it taught me the name of the gldaiators called Mermillo's....and I just loved the name. this is about as rough as a sketch gets, but I'm working towards developing one of these guys up in 3D....

012 - A Reptillian Champion...incomplete

A recent effort for the CTT...Scobot presented me with an enjoybale challenge. Unfortunately extraodinarily beutiful october weather prevented me from finishing it appropriatly....a task I will fulfill in the near future.

011 - Spaceman

I was just mucking around with silhouettes for another little project, and some cool stuff started to happen, and so this sort of materialised. A bit different to my usual approach, but worth looking into the technique further....

010 - Starting out in 3D

One of the results of a recent course studying 3DS Max....concept through to final rigged model, ready for animation. Part of a group project and a lot of fun...

One of a about a dozen colour concepts, and the one actually chosen to move forward with...

A screen shot of the model...no textures yet...


...and the final model textured up. Details give an idea of the bump maps used to differentiate between the different areas of his skin. The main texture was just loosely painted in Photoshop, and the scales were blended over this. The 'chalky' transition between the two areas was a fortunate accident...a result of simply seeing what would happen if the same texture was applied as a bump map 'as is'. We then played with inverting this to get an appropriate rise and fall...

The Norse Mythology activity at Unit 16 prompted this beefcake....if my anatomy is even remotely correct, methinks I've maybe twisted his biceps 90 degrees forward....nevermind, another fun pick to draw....

004 - Chaos Knight

I have not been able to really settle my drawing down. My colour stuff is OK, but I have been unable to find a groove that really works for me, or provides consistency to my work. Recently I have been playing with Sketchbook Pro, and this has allowed me to start finding a method to my madness...

At the moment I am just focusing on black and white, and getting a consistency that is appealing...the colour can wait for the time being...

This bloke was a response to the Character Tag Team thread at Unit 16. Because of a 48hr timeframe I didn't quite get to finish him...he is supposed to be materialising out of a pile of skulls (naturally). The Kitchen set me up for a very enjoyable 48hrs...thankyou Kitchen...

003 - Pigs will fly

Another old one that doesn't seem to go away...the flying pig keeps popping up. I've always liked his earnest expression...I'm sure he is on an important flight. Either way, I will get round to treating him properly one day...

002 - Bounty Hunters

Unit 16 had an activity some time back to draw Star Wars bounty hunters...either new ones or interpretations of the existing crew. Who can go past an opportunity to draw Boba Fett and Bossk...ready for a bust up!!!
